Crossing Patterns of Segments

چکیده
Given a system S of simple continuous curves (``strings'') in the plane, we can define a graph GS as follows. Assign a vertex to each curve, and connect two vertices by an edge if and only if the corresponding two curves intersect. GS is called the intersection graph of S. Not every graph is an intersection graph of a system of curves [EET76] (see Fig. 1 for a simple example). This implies that only a very small fraction of all the 2( n 2) labeled graphs on n vertices have this property. For systems of segments, using standard techniques from real algebraic geometry (see [GP86, AKS90, PPW90]), we obtain a fairly good quantitative result.

Deer-Vehicle Crash Patterns and Proposed Warning Sign Installation Guidelines
Deer crossing signs are the most widely used potential countermeasure to deer-vehicle crashes (DVCs). The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices provides qualitative guidance and indicates the installation of these signs where animal crossings are unexpected. Most drivers assume these signs designate roadway segments with larger than typical numbers of DVCs and/or deer crossings. Studies of ...
متن کاملOn Random Line Segments in the Unit Square
I. INTRODUCTION Let Q = [0, 1] × [0, 1] denote the unit square and let L n be a set of n line segments in Q. Two line segments are said to be crossing if they intersect at any point. A subset of line segments is called non-crossing if no two segments in the subset are crossing. Consider the scenario where the endpoints of the n line segments are randomly distributed, independently and uniformly...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Core Muscles Dysfunction and Chronic Ankle Instability: A Review
Objective The aim of this study is investigate the core muscles dysfunctions and their consequences in patients with chronic ankle instability. Methods In this review study, search was conducted in three online databases of PubMed, Scopus, and Google scholar based on Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) strategy, and using keywords related to the role and function of core muscles,...
متن کاملTemporal patterns in road crossing behaviour in roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) at sites with wildlife warning reflectors
Every year, there are millions of documented vehicle collisions involving cervids across Europe and North America. While temporal patterns in collision occurrence are relatively well described, few studies have targeted deer behaviour as a critical component of collision prevention. In this study, we investigated weekly and daily patterns in road crossing behaviour in roe deer. Using road cross...
متن کاملIdentification and Prioritization of Accident-Prone Segments using International Roughness Index
During last decades, owing to the increase in a number of vehicles, the rate of accident occurrence grows significantly. Efforts must be made to provide efficient tools to prioritize segments requiring safety improvement and identify influential factors on accidents. This objective of the research was to determine the safety oriented threshold of International Roughness Index (IRI) to recognize...
متن کاملSelection Strategies for the Development of Maize Introgression Populations
Introgression libraries are valuable resources for QTL detection and breeding, but their development is costly and time-consuming. Selection strategies for the development of introgression populations with a limited number of individuals and high-throughput (HT) marker assays are required. The objectives of our simulation study were to design and compare selection strategies for the development...
